From knodel@pattyr.acs.ohio-state.edu Tue Nov 30 05:58:35 1993 Subject: Netwit Reply-To: help@netwit.cmhnet.org To: adam@vlsi.cs.caltech.edu Good Morning Campers. Since it has been about 20 years since I last sent out a _Netwit_, you may not even remember that at one time you were either subscribed to an electronic humor magazine, or that you once asked to subscribe. Consider this a warning that you are currently one of the 1378 people on the _Netwit_ mailing list. Of course you may remove yourself from this mailing list at any time. Simply send a letter to netwit@netwit.cmhnet.org with your version of the following: REM knodel@netwit.cmhnet.org (as in, REMove me@my.address) You should use the address from the header of this message (or an issue of _Netwit_ that you receive) as that will be exactly the address I have on my list, and will prevent any confusion that may arise. (as in you say REM me@my.address and I am sending to Address%1.me!my!mailgate) For those of you who have been with me for awhile and are wondering where the hell I have been, and why I haven't been answering mail, much less sending out _Netwit_ regularly for the last year. The problems started when I left (was booted from, kicked out of, asked to leave) OSU. (You who were paying attention may have noticed the addresses moved from *.ohio-state.edu to **.netwit.cmhnet.org.) Then I had problems with cmhnet not being as stable as it could be, then I had hardware problems with the late 70's era cpu I was using, a few people were getting rude about material (and me rejecting theirs) the adds/remove requests were getting to be too much, and I just kicked the whole idea out the window. So why should you believe that things are going to be better now? Well, firstly, I have a high-endian pc that I blew half a zillion bucks on, cmhnet is now right snappy, and I read through 672 requests that have accumulated and processed all of them. And, perhaps most important of all, I once again have a job with a little free time for net.lurking. A little about _Netwit_. It will offend you. At one time or another something I include will offend you. I'm warning you now. I make no effort to be politically correct. I don't go out of my way to offend, I do not include hateful material, but my only criteria is what *I* thought was funny when I read it. If you are uncertain about this, read an issue or two and then decide. If you are really in serious doubt, remove yourself from the list. You will not offend me. For every person that removes themselves, I add ten, which is why the list has grown from the original elm alias to a giant of a mailing list. (Which, btw, I am the only person who has access to, so you needn't worry about privacy.) Yes, I know, I am very long winded, but there are a few other things I need to say. Yes, _Netwit_ is being archived, but not at the old place, as that person is no longer in the archive business. I will make more info on the archives available as soon as the details are more firmly set. The addresses you should remember: knodel@netwit.cmhnet.org Me- send real mail to me, the person, here. netwit@netwit.cmhnet.org ADD/REM requests only. submit@netwit.cmhnet.org All joke submissions. help@netwit.cmhnet.org The _Netwit_ help file autoreply. If you have any comments or questions, feel free to send mail- I'm sure to answer it eventually. jk p.s. If you get 2 copies of this letter, you are on the list twice. Let me know about it!
