" DATE: Mon Apr 17 15:00:15 CDT 1995 FILE: readme WHAT: FAQ for the FringeWare email list and infobot This is an FAQ for FringeWare -- an email list, list server and collection of file archives for people who hang out on the Fringes of art, society and technology, sponsored by... FringeWare Inc. IMPORTANT NOTE: our infobot, Rover, will return this file to everyone who writes to FringeWare asking to subscribe or asking for help or information about our online services. If you subscribe to our email list and receive this file in response, you DO NOT need to subscribe again. We say this because sometimes people spend an entire day subscribing over and over and over and... To post a message to the FW email list, send email to: email@fringeware.com To join/leave or access the file server, send email to our reasonably intelligent agent, Rover: info@fringeware.com THIS IS A MODERATED list combined with an automated file/list server, which we affectionately call Rover... If the body of a message you send to Rover begins with certain commands, then Rover will respond back to you... Your wish is Rover's command, to some extent. Here is a summary of commands which Rover can understand: subscribe to join the list unsubscribe to leave the list list to list the available files get FILE to send you the file name "FILE" find KEY to send you a list of files containing "KEY" help to send you THIS FILE (same as "get readme") ping to check whether the list knows your address daily to receive daily msgs instead of the weekly digest digest to receive the weekly digest instead of daily msgs quit to quit scanning a msg, in case you have a .sig For example, if your were to send Rover the following message: To: info@fringeware.com get commands ...then Rover would would send back to you a summary of commands and details about other ways to reach FringeWare online. Mailings go out as we see messages come in; we moderate and try to pace mailings to have a consistent daily rate. Messages are digested weekly and stored in the archives as YYMMDD.msg If you'd rather get a weekly digest instead of daily mailings, then send an email message with just the word DIGEST to the infobot. If your email address starts "bouncing" (sending back error messages) then our Infobot will drop your email subscription temporarily, at least until we hear back from you... So if you don't hear from us for a while, you might check. Note that all of your private information, including email address, mailing address, buying patterns, etc. will not be disclosed outside of FringeWare Inc. ALONG WITH THE EMAIL LIST, we also have a retail store (come check us out at the corner of 51st & Duval in Austin) and we publish a quarterly magazine called _Fringe Ware Review_ (ISSN 1069-5656) which offers essays, fiction, comix, reviews and tutorials about topics discussed here. The annual subscription price for FWR is: US$15 NorthAmerica, US$30 library rate, US$25 elsewhere for a 4-issue subscription... [ get subscribe ] If you can't find FWR at a local bookstore, please let us know the names and addresses of stores in which you would like to find it (especially outside the US) and we'll do our best to get it stocked there... [ get stores ] Otherwise, you can order copies directly from FringeWare at the address listed below... [ get prices ] HEY!
