Internet Marketing Discussion list info

June 28, 1995

First Frequently Asked Question

Is there a FAQ for this list? This is more or less it.

The topic of marketing and Internet is a broad one and controversial. This
list was established to discuss *appropriate* marketing of services, ideas,
and items to and on the Internet. At this writing, over 4,400 people and
sites involved in all aspects of marketing, sales, programming, journalism,
and other fields are actively participating in this forum.

This list is a good source both for people who want to create Internet
sites, market products and goods in appropriate ways, develop payment
systems, or write about what's going on here.

Guidelines and Focus Of List

Topics

The topics of this list are limitless, but should be focused around:

     How to reach consumers/end-users/purchasers
How to find out how many people are actually out there on the 'Net
How to advertise and market appropriately
Ordering and credit card purchasing, including how to get merchant
     status
Secure ordering systems (NetSite/SSL, SHTTP, etc.)
Digital cash and related systems (DigiCash, CyberCash, First Virtual
     Holdings, and other systems)
     Trademarks and copyright

Posting Recommendations and Guideline

     Be pithy.
Only a few posts per day per person.
New material is better than quoted material.
Posts with inappropriate material will be rejected out of hand. This
includes attacks on other people and commercial appeals.
Don't quote entire posts. Please choose the necessary minimum to quote
     and reply to that.
Please keep signatures (.sig's) to 8 lines or fewer. Longer sigs will
     be shortened arbitrarily.
Make sure that any quoted material is properly cited (i.e., "Etaoin
Shrdlu writes:" followed by the quoted material identified by some
     mark as quoted lines).

Moderated List

This list is moderated. That means that I review all posts before they get
exploded to the list. There are options if you don't like that (see below).
I reject posts on very few grounds. Sometimes, it's because the post is far
away from the guidelines above. Mostly, however, it's because the material
is sufficiently unrelated to the list.
