Greetings! Thank you for exploring the Pooh Corner Web Page and/or asking for
more information about the PoohNews mailing list. For Web Browsers, despite 
the Web Page's impression, you are NOT automatically signed up for the list. 
Please read on to discover

1) whether you should sign up
2) how to do it

The Pooh-List was dedicated to the discussion of A.A.Milne's world of the 
Hundred Acre Wood and the characters to be found there, in books like 
Winnie the Pooh and House at Pooh Corner, Disney animations, Shepherd 
illustrations, and any other subject only tenuously related to Pooh, 
Christopher Robin and his friends. It has been by and large superseded by 
a new forum...

The list is continuing discussions in the NEWLY CREATED USENET NEWSGROUP
ALT.FAN.POOH, which was created by and for list-members, to get more people
involved. If you have access to news at your site, please request and read
alt.fan.pooh, rather than subscribe to the list, as it will allow you to talk
about pooh & meet list folks without deluging your mailbox. It is "bandwidth
friendly" and less labor intensive for all.  

For example: AOL users have access to alt.fan.pooh.  AOL users should NOT 
subscribe to the mailing list.

IF YOU ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH USENET or do not know whether your site carries
alt.fan.pooh, please ask someone at your site (your sysadmin, newsadmin, or
help desk person) to let you subscribe to alt.fan.pooh

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE NEWS ACCESS, or if your alt.* access is limited, do not
lose hope. I am trying to forward posts to list subscribers, whilst and at
the same time some software is being developed to try and bridge the gap
between the newsgroups and the list. Please subscribe to the list
following the directions below, and let me know what your access
limitations are. Please only do this if you are restricted by your system
(and not by Being A Very Small Animal Surrounded by the 'Net) from reading
alt.fan.pooh

To join the list, send an email to listserver@jagnet.demon.co.uk, with
the follwing command in the message body:

subscribe poohnews Real Name

where Real Name is your real name!  

PLEASE NOTE: the mailing list is called poohnews, NOT pooh-list.

You will receive more information about the list when you subscribe.

There is a FAQ, currently being revised for version 1.1 (which 
includes a HTML companion document, residing at the Web Site below).
