If you ever want to remove yourself from this mailing list, send the following command in email to "Majordomo@world.std.com": unsubscribe wnn adam at xent dot com (Adam Rifkin) Here's the general information for the list you've subscribed to, in case you don't already have it: WHAT THIS LIST IS ---- ---- ---- -- The WNN mailing list is dedicated to discussion of ABC's overnight news program "World News Now". Anything related to the show is acceptable: content, the anchors, the reporters, its alumni, Yanni...we could go on and on. WHAT THIS LIST IS NOT ---- ---- ---- -- --- A lot of people come across WNN in various mailing list directories, see the words "world news", and get some pretty strange ideas as to our purpose. Thus, a direct list of what we've been believed to be in the past, yet are not: 1) A news-dissemination service. 2) A current-events discussion group. 3) ABC News 4) The Brian Rooney Fan Club 5) A World Cup scores server (yup, someone asked) I have no qualms about anyone actually mentioning any of the above on the list (I happen to like Rooney personally), but the list is about the program, not about news itself. As far as I'm concerned, tangential threads are fine until other list members start to complain. WHAT YOU, AS A WORLD NEWS NOWBIE, NEED TO KNOW ---- ---- -- - ----- ---- ------- ---- -- ---- (Note: this is a work-in-progress, thus the holes. I'm working on it. Last updated: 24-Jun-1994, 5:00 am.) 1) Who is Thalia Assuras? Thalia is the reigning anchor of World News Now. She was discovered during the Great World News Now Talent Search (send resumes c/o Travis, no tapes please) after the departure of Lisa McRee (q.v.) while working in a meat-packing plant outside Winnipeg. Before that, she was an anchor/reporter at CTV News in Toronto, and at Global TV Ontario. 2) Who is Boyd Matson? Boyd is the other half of the current anchor team. You should know Boyd already; before WNN he was a reporter/fill-in anchor on the Today show for many years, and also was an anchor at CNBC and on the ill-fated "USA Today: The Television Show". Don't hold it against him. 3) Who is Aaron Brown? God. More specifically, the Dean of Overnight Anchors. One of the original WNN anchors, plucked from Seattle television. 4) Who is Lisa McRee? The other half of the original anchor team. Plucked from Houston television. Currently host of Lifetime's "Lifetime Magazine" and soon to be an anchor on KABC Los Angeles's 5 & 11 pm news. 5) How do they compute the National Temperature Index? With a calculator. 6) What is the official hockey team of World News Now? The Anaheim Mighty Ducks. 7) But is hockey a real sport? No. 8) What *is* a real sport then? Sumo wrestling.
