Please send all comments to nhschutt@mtu.edu Attention Computer Geeks: Be careful with your disks! You could be convicted of data rape. Hundreds of people nationwide have committed this heinous crime. Many more have been convicted. What is data rape? Data rape (from the latin word daterape) is the violation of the rights of computer disks What can happen to you if you are convicted of data rape? Data rape is now considered a capital crime, due to a new bill pushed through Congress. As you may know, all capital crimes are now punishable by the intentional permanent corruption of your file system. To help prevent data rape from occurring in your sector, here are some tips which you should find helpful: 1) When a disk cries NO!, it isn't saying "Go ahead, format me," "Hey big boy, I'd love to have you deleting my data," or "Oh, I love it when you corrupt me like that!" Instead, it is crying NO! Talk to your disk before performing any embarrassing operation. 2) A disk is crying NO! when its write-protect tab is set to the "Don't write to me" position. This tab should never be set to the "Go ahead, make my day" position without first testing the disk's file system. This type of foreplay is mandatory. You cannot simply force your will upon the disk. 3) A disk can be made to appear drunk when it is left near intense magnetic fields. Never intentionally get a disk drunk in order to take advantage of it. You shouldn't have to be that devious; after all, you probably have at least one disk in your collection that is crying to be fondled.
