It is an emerging field with tremendous impact on existing system components as well as applications. Because of the evolving nature on this new field, the scope of the 1994 International Conference on Multimedia Computing and Systems will be wide. It is anticipated that applications as well as all type software, and hardware will be represented. Topics of interest which are considered to be the conference areas include, but are not limited to: Artifical intelligence & multimedia Capture and creation of multimedia Collaborative work with multimedia systems Compression technology integrated into multimedia systems Hardware & software issues unique to multimedia computing Human computer interaction in multimedia systems Information appliances Multimedia data modelling Multimedia applications Multimedia database systems Multimedia programming environments Multimedia standards Networks and Communication Systems for multimedia Operating System for multimedia Presentation of multimedia information Real-time issues in multimedia systems Searching and indexing large multimedia information spaces Synthetic information/video generation Technologies for multimedia input and output Tools for multimedia system and application development User interfaces in multimedia systems Workstation architecture and components for multimedia computing Exceptional papers will be recommended for publication to the IEEE Multimedia Magazine. In keeping with the conference subject, presentations at the conference are encouraged to be themselves multimedia. INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS Authors are requested to submit six copies (in English) of their manuscript (maximum of 20 pages) with an abstract and keywords to Scott M. Stevens by August 15, 1993. The conference language is English and final papers are restricted to eight IEEE model pages. Each paper must be accompanied by a submission letter that indicates to which one or two conference areas are most relevant. If there are multiple authors, one author must be designated as responsible for correspondence and preparation of the camera-ready paper for inclusion in the proceedings. Please give postal address, email address, telephone and fax numbers for the corresponding author. Authors will be notified of acceptance by October 15, 1993 and will be given instructions for final preparation of their papers at that time. In order to appear in the Proceedings, this final must be back to Scott M. Stevens at November 15, 1993. Submit papers to: Software Engineering Institute Carnegie Mellon University Pittsburgh, PA 15313 U. S. A. email: sms@sei.cmu.edu Phone: +1 412 268-7796 Fax: +1 412 268-5758 TUTORIALS In addition to papers, proposals for half, one and two day tutorials are solicited in any of the conference areas. A proposal should clearly state the area to contribute to, a summary of the content (preferable with a rough timing schedule), and the authors. If there are multiple authors, one author must be designated as responsible for correspondence. Please give postal address, email address, telephone and fax numbers for the corresponding author. The Proposals should be submitted by August 15, 1993. Proposers will be given instructions for the follow-on procedures. Submit proposals for tutorials to: Erich J. Neuhold GMD-IPSI / T.H.
