From: funnyr@clarinet.com (Funny Guy) Subject: RHF moderator change -- welcome to Maddi Hausmann Date: 5 Oct 92 22:15:25 GMT I would like to introduce you all to Maddi Hausmann, who is now the new primary moderator of rec.humor.funny. Many of you will know Maddi from the funny original submissions she has posted in this group from time to time, or from the joke-group and her former employer, Tandem. She's going to be taking over most of what I've been doing here. After 5 years, my brain is burnt out, and my electronic newspaper publishing venture and my other ventures have grown nicely but no longer leave me with the time to moderate this newsgroup properly. I've gotten way behind in the joke processing queue. However, I don't want to totally give up involvement with the group, so instead of just passing the torch, I am going to sponsor it. Maddi will be paid to moderate the group and to sysop on GEnie, working as a contractor to ClariNet. I will continue as what you might call an executive moderator, reviewing final selections, jokebook material and prizes, as well, of course, as paying for it all. The queue was at least 3 months large, so in effect she's been moderating non-topical submissions since before the summer. The jokes she has selected have been coming out for the past couple of weeks. All submission and comment addresses remain the same. (All are @clarinet.com) Jokes: funny Non-Jokes: funny-request Urgent jokes: topical Original material: original Jokes, no auto-reply: rhf Jokebook queries: jokebook ClariNet queries: info One rule that becomes even stronger -- no RHF mail to my personal mailbox, please. Now, Maddi is a funny person, but no two person's tastes in comedy are exactly alike. That means that some of you who have loved my tastes may find you hate hers, and if you've been bothered by mine you may love hers. Realizing that between 100,000 and 200,000 people read this newsgroup on an almost daily basis, I am afraid I must ask you to refrain from e-mailing in opinions on the change in the group. Even if 1/10th of 1% of you felt like mailing in that the group had gone seriously up or downhill, that's 100 to 200 mail messages. After 5 years and over 30,000 submissions, I've become a bit jaded, and I think that's hurt the quality of the group. Most of the ones I like best went by in the first couple of years (and can be found in the jokebooks.) I think that the introduction of a fresh viewpoint can't help but improve some things. You will also see a few mistakes, even obvious ones, as she learns the ropes, and a few duplicates when she forgets what I have done in the past, and all sorts of changeover trouble. Bear with us. It's been a crazy five years. I've been loved and hated, banned, defended and un-banned, flamed and praised, lost and made money and heard just about every joke around, some of them a few dozen times. So thanks to all who supported me, and before I close, let me tell you this great joke about these three hunchback, dyslexic, agnostic Iraqi driver's ed teaching strings with mouse balls that walk up to a bar carrying some administratium...
